1.介绍

莱佛士女中——RafflesGirls'School——RGS

RafflesGirls'School(Secondary)isanindependentgirls'secondaryschoolinSingapore.RGSwasrecognisedbytheMinistryofEducationin2006bybeingawardedtheSchoolExcellenceAward(recognisingschoolswith'exemplaryschoolprocessesandpractices'),amongotherawards.[1]IthasbeenconsistentlyrankedasoneofthetopamongsecondaryschoolsinSingaporeintheofficialannualschoolrankingspublishedbytheMinistryofEducation.

RGSoffersthefirstfouryearsoftheIntegratedProgrammeintheRafflesProgramme,togetherwithRafflesInstitution,whichallowsstudentstoproceeddirectlytoRafflesInstitution(JuniorCollege)withouttakingtheGCE'O'Levels.ItwasalsooneofthefirstfewschoolstooffertheGiftedEducationProgramme.

ItisnotofficiallyaffiliatedwithRafflesGirls'PrimarySchool,despitehavingacommonhistory.

2.历史

BeforeRafflesGirls'SchoolbecameaschoolinitsownrightitexistedasapartofRafflesInstitution(RI).

ThedepartmentforgirlswasopenedintheRIcampusofBrasBasahRoadon4March1844with11students,5day-scholarsandsixboarders,whowereclothed,fedandinstructedbytheinstitutionitself.Thedemandforeducationgrewandin1847,theschoolmovedtoRI'seasternwing,extendingtowardsBrasBasahRoad.Awallknownasthe'BerlinWall'separatedtheboys'andgirls'buildings.In1871,theschoolmovedintoahouse,theGeorgeFamily'sOldMansionatthecornerofBrasBasahRoad.In1879,theschoolseparatedfromRIandMissNelsonwasappointedtheschool'sfirstheadmistress.Togetherwiththreeassistants,sherantheschoolwhichhadanenrolmentof77.Sincethen,1879hasbeenofficiallyregardedastheyearofthefoundingofRGS.

From1882onwards,Englishspeakingboyswereadmittedtothelower,middleandprimaryclasses.Thiswasdiscontinuedin1927duetotheincreasingdemandforaccommodationforgirls.TheRafflesOldGirls'associationwasformedon7July1950.Theschoolmottowasintroducedin1953,withtheschool'sfirstannualSpeechDayheldonthesameyear.

RGSbecameagovernmentschoolin1903,locatedatQueenStreet.In1959,theprimaryandsecondarysectionsoftheschoolwereseparatedandthesecondarysectionmovedtoAndersonRoad,whiletheprimarysectionremainsinQueenStreet.Theschoolstoppedoffering'A'levelcoursesin1983,andtheGiftedEducationProgrammestartedin1984.TheschoollatermovedtoaholdingschoollocatedatJalanKualain1988andmovedbacktoanewbuildingatAndersonRoadon1November1992,becomingindependenton1January1993.In1994,theRGSchapterwasformed,toreplacetheWomen'sRafflesianChapter.

Thecurriculumwhentheschoolfirststartedwasconfinedtobasicskillslikereading,writing,needleworkandcookery,asthefocusoftheschoolinthepastwastoequipgirlswiththetoolstobecomeaneducatedwife.Thecurriculumnowcomprisesthesciences,humanitiesandaesthetics.AllstudentsarealsorequiredtohavelessonsinPhilosophy,oneofthenotablefeaturesoftheRafflesProgramme.LowerSecondarystudentsalsohavelessonsinSpeechandDrama.

Today,RafflesGirls'Schoolhasastudentpopulationofabout1,800students(SecondaryOnetoSecondaryFour,includingforeignscholars)and170teachers.

3.人文环境气氛

PrefectorialBoard

TheRafflesGirls'School(Secondary)PrefectorialBoard,alsoknownasRGSPB,wasestablishedin1950.

TheBboardconsistsofprefectsfromYear3and4,aswellasPrefects-in-TrainingfromYear2.UppersecondarymembersoftheBoardweartheschooltie,theschoolsocks,awhiteblouseandanavyblueskirt.

Apartfromtheroleofmaintainingdisciplineinschool,prefectsalsoteachandleadinRafflesianCheersduringschooleventsandinter-schoolcompetitions.TheBoardalsosellsRafflesianproductslikejacketsandschoolbadges,andloansitemssuchasblouses,pinaforesandschoolblazers.Prefects-in-trainingalsoholdfund-raisingsonspecialschooloccasions,andvariousCCAs'concertsandperformances.RGSPBorganizesfunctionsandassiststheRGSstaffinrunningevents,frequentlyworkingwiththePeerSupportBoardtoorganisesuchevents,suchasorientationfortheYear1pupils.

ThePeerSupportBoard(PSB)wassetupin1995withthemainaimofintroducingthenewSecondary1pupilsintothenewenvironment.TheBoardorganizesschoolfunctionswiththePrefectorialBoard.SomeexamplesofcollaborativeleadershipbetweenthetwoboardsaretheannualStudentLeadersInvestiture,ReportingDayandtheSecondary1Orientation.Apartfromorganisingschoolevents,thekeyeventforallPSLsintheirleadershipjourneyinPSBistheweeklyPSLsessions.Inthesesessions,PSLsmeetwiththeSecondary1classestheyareinchargeof,tosharetheirexperiencesandthoughtsonissuespertinenttoSecondary1s,andprovidealisteningear.

Asof2005,JuniorPSLs(JPSLs)wereintroducedin2007.Secondary2studentsareselectedthroughinterviewsandrecruitedintotheboard,givingthemthechancetoapplytheirleadershipskills.TheirfirstprojectwouldusuallybetheSec1Orientationforthenextbatchofstudents.AsecondintakeisconductedattheendofSecondary2.ThelogoofPSBisthedolphin.Dolphinsarefriendlycreaturesandtravelingroups.Similarly,membersofthePSBaimtobefriendlyandapproachable,neverwalkingalone.ThemottoofthePSBis“ridingthewaveswithyou”.

TheStudentCongressisastudent-runboardthatengagesthestudentpopulaceintheprocessesoftheschool.UniqueamongschoolsinSingapore,RGS'StudentCongressistheonlyonewithanintra-schoolforumthatallowsdiscussionofschoolissues.Asof2009itisnolongeranonymous,amoveaimedatencouragingresponsiblefreespeech,whichhasmetwithslightsuccess.Nonetheless,StudentCongressof2010isscalingupactivitiestoencompassgreaterstudentparticipationinreviewingcommunitypracticesandcommentingonschoolevents.

TheRGS-InternationalConventionforYouthLeaders(RGS-ICYL)gathersfemalestudentleadersfromlocalandinternationalinstitutions,firstorganisedin2006intendedasaplatformforfemaleyouthleaderswithdiversebackgroundstoexchangeideasandexperiences,andthusgainabetterunderstandingofhowtheycancontributetosocietyasafemaleleader.Guestspeakersfromthecorporatesector,politicsandhumanitariangroupsareinvitedtoprovideawiderangeofperspectives.Inaddition,RGS-ICYLofferedopportunitiesforfellowyouthleaderstobeambassadorsoftheirrespectivecountriesinthecontextofanexchangeofideasacrosscultures.
