PrincetonUniversityisaprivateresearchuniversitylocatedinthreemunicipalitiesinthePrincetonareaofNewJersey,UnitedStates.Theschool,locatedwithintheboundariesofBoroughofPrinceton,PrincetonTownship,andWestWindsorTownship,isoneoftheeightuniversitiesthatcomposetheIvyLeague.

Originallyfoundedin1746atElizabeth,NewJersey,astheCollegeofNewJersey,itmovedtoPrincetonin1756andwasrenamed“PrincetonUniversity”in1896.[5]PrincetonwasthefourthinstitutionofhighereducationintheU.S.toconductclasses.[6][7]Theuniversity,unlikemostAmericanuniversitiesthatwerefoundedatthesametime,didnothaveanofficialreligiousaffiliation.Atonetime,ithadclosetiestothePresbyterianChurch,buttodayitisnonsectarianandmakesnoreligiousdemandsofitsstudents.[8][9]TheuniversityhastieswiththeInstituteforAdvancedStudy,PrincetonTheologicalSeminary,andtheWestminsterChoirCollegeofRiderUniversity.[10]

ThoughPrincetonUniversityhastraditionallyfocusedonundergraduateeducation,ithasalmosttwothousandfivehundredgraduatestudents[11]enrolled,anditsCarnegieclassificationisresearchuniversity.[12]Althoughlackingmedical,law,orbusinessschools,itoffersprofessionalmaster'sdegrees(mostlythroughtheWoodrowWilsonSchoolofPublicandInternationalAffairs)anddoctoralprogramsinthesciences,humanities,andsocialsciences,aswellasengineering.Inadditiontotheresearchconductedonthemaincampus,theForrestalCampushasspecialfacilitiesforthestudyofplasmaphysicsandmeteorology.
