　　ThereisnocentralizedapplicationsystemforSpanishuniversities,andeachinstitutionwillsetitsownentryrequirementsanddeadlines–sobecarefultocheckwiththeuniversityitself.Youmayneedtositanentranceexamination,thoughEUstudentsandotherswhohavecompletedInternationalBaccalaureateswilloftenbeexcusedthispartoftheprocedure.Teaching,asyoumightexpect,willalmostcertainlybeinSpanish,soit’simportantthatyouhaveagraspofthelanguage;inmanycasesyou’llstruggletoevenapplywithoutthis.

　　YouwillneedtoapplyforstudentvisatypeDinyourhomecountry.Thiscomesintwoformats;openand180days,somakesurethatyouapplyfortherightone.Exactrequirementsmayvary.YouwillcertainlyneedtohavebeenacceptedontoacourseataSpanishuniversity,havepurchasedhealthinsurance,andhavesufficientfunds(aletterconfirmingparentalsupportisdeemedsufficient).Youmayneedtoproveyoudon’thaveacriminalrecordandprovideamedicalcertificate.Youshouldallowthreemonthsforprocessing.Youwillbeallowedtoworkifyouhaveaworkpermit,solongasitdoesnotadverselyaffectyourstudies.AfterarrivingyoumustalsoapplyforanAutorizacióndeEstanciaporEstudios,atemporarypermitwhichgivesyourightofresidenceinSpain,within30days.Thishastoberenewedannually,andwillhingeonyoursatisfactoryacademicperformance.

　　Feesandfunding

　　ApplicantscomingfromtheEUpaythesametuitionfeesaslocalstudents.TheseareusuallybetweenUS$800-1,500peryearatpublicuniversitiesinSpain,andbetween€5,500-18,000(~US$6,000-19,670)peryearifyoustudyinSpainataprivate-sectoruniversity.Ifyoucomefromanon-EUcountry,yourfeeswillbehigher,butonlymarginally.Forexactinformationonyourtuitionfees,contactyourchosenuniversityorvisititswebsite.
