TheSchoolofForeignLanguagesofLinyiNormalUniversityisasecondaryschoolwithahistoryof27years.Itisoneofthemostimportantandmostpopularmajorsanditsscaleisthelargestintheuniversity.Foundedin1978,itwascombinedbytheForeignLanguageDepartmentofLinyiTeacher’sCollegeandthatofLinyiEducationalCollege.Nowithas73classes,amongwhichthereare38four-yearclassesand35three-yearclasses.Thetotalnumberofstudentsenrolledis2688.Todaythisschoolhas16membersofstaffand84membersoffulltimefaculty.Amongthem,thereare7professors,17associateprofessors,42instructors,2doctorsand1would-bedoctors,and48mastersandwould-bemasters.Besidesthereare6foreignteachersfromtheU.S.,England,Canada,teachingoralEnglish,theGeneralknowledgeofBritainandAmerica,etc.From2003,theSchoolofForeignLanguageshasemployedsomeprofessorsofdoctoralprogramsasthemajorlecturingprofessorsforfour-yearstudentsfromQinghuaUniversity,BeijingUniversity,FudanUniversity,ShanghaiForeignLanguages’University,DiplomacyCollege,NanjingUniversity,ShandongUniversity,TongjiUniversityandsoforth.RichfruitshavebeenreapedonscientificresearchintheSchoolofForeignLanguages.Morethan400articleshavebeenpublishedduringrecentyearsinsuchkeymagazinesasForeignLanguagesandTheirTeaching,ForeignLanguageWorld,EnglishTeachingandResearchNotesforPrimaryandMiddleSchool,ForeignLanguages,HeiLongjiangResearchesonHigherEducation,TheoryandPracticeofEducationandShandongResearchonEducationandsoon.Wehaveopened4kindsofmajors,whichincludenormalthree-yearandfour-yearstudentsandnon-normalthree-yearandfour-yearstudents.Thenon-normalmajorsareinbusinessEnglish.AgreatnumberofexcellentgraduatescomefromtheSchoolofForeignLanguagesduringthelast20years,3ofwhomnowserveasofficialsinthenationalMinistryofForeignAffairs.Moreover,somegraduatesarenowstudyingorworkingabroad------theUS,UK,Canada,Australia,JapanandMiddleEastandsoon.Accordingtoincompletestatistics,morethan300graduateswereadmittedtootheruniversitiesforMaster’sprogramsandover30wereacceptedforDoctoralstudies,someofwhomhavebecomeadvisorsofmaster’sordoctoralprograms.Strictlyguidedbytheteachingideaofourschool------basingonteaching,standingbyqualityandcenteringonthestudents,theSchoolofForeignLanguageshasmadesatisfyingprogressthroughstrictlycontrollingtheattitudeofteaching,studyingandexamination.TheCET’spassrateof2001was61.48%,28.98%higherthantheaveragerateofallthecollegesinthecountry.Andin2002itwas49.6%------abovetheaveragerateof18.5%.Theperformanceintheentranceexaminationfromcollegeleveltouniversitylevelhasbeenaheadofothersamelevelcollegesofourprovincefor7yearssuccessively.In2003,105studentsamongthetotal154graduateswereadmittedwiththerateof68.2%.Theadmittedstudentsfromourschoolwereone–fifthofthetotalstudentsoftheprovince(500).In2004,28studentsofthetotal92graduateswereadmittedtootheruniversitiesforMaster’sprogramwiththerateof30.44%.In2005,morethan78graduateswereadmittedforMaster’sprogram.TheSchoolofForeignLanguagespayscloseattentiontothedevelopmentofstudents’individuality.OurstudentshadwonthethirdprizeintheEnglish-ChineseSpeechContestofcollegestudents’pioneeringworkofShandongProvincethreetimessuccessivelyandthefirstprizeofLinyiNormalUniversitycollegestudents’imagecontesttwice.TheSchoolofForeignLanguageswillcontinuetocarryonthefinetraditionofLinyiNormalUniversity,tryingtoexplorenewmodestotrainhigh-rankingtalentsinmoderntimesandtointroducevigorouslyhigh-qualityeducationalresourcesbothfromhomeandabroad.Wewillalsosetupcooperationwithfamousuniversitiesandbuildschoolsjointlywithenterprisesinordertobringupcreativetalentsofnewtypeswhoconformtotherequirementofthetimesandthatofthesociety.
