Wuzhen, located in Tongxiang City, Jiaxing City, Zhejiang Province, covers an area of 79 square kilometers. It is located in the land of Jiangsu, Zhejiang and Shanghai Golden Triangle and the hinterland of Hangjiahu Plain. It has a subtropical monsoon climate, 60 kilometers away from Hangzhou and Suzhou and 106 kilometers away from Shanghai. It belongs to the water system of Taihu Lake Basin, with criss-crossing rivers and the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal passing by the town. Wuzhen was originally divided into two towns in Qing Wu and Wuzhen in Hexi, belonging to Wucheng County, Huzhou Prefecture. Hedong is a green town, belonging to Tongxiang County, Jiaxing Prefecture. After liberation, Wuzhen, west of Shihe River, was placed under Tongxiang County, which was called Wuzhen.
