further和farther的区别

1. 两个都是far 的比较级，但是 farther 强调在距离上更远强调的是广度，而further 是强调在程度上更深远强调的是深度。

2. farther一般只用于表示有形距离的“较远”、“更远；further既可表示有形距离的“较远”、“更远”，也还可表示“更多的” “另一些” “进一步的” “而且” “另外”等等：

而further 是强调在程度上更深远强调的是深度,比如

farther 一般用的较多,但是在程度上表示深入的时候用further.

二、在词义和用法上有什么区别：

1.farther与further都是形容词和副词far的比较级：

far—farther—farthest

far—further—furtherst

2.但是它们在词义和用法上却有区别。

（1）farther一般只用于表示有形距离的“较远”、“更远”：

a. On the farther side of the steet there was a large shop.

在街的那一边有一家大商店。

b. We can't go any farther without a rest.

我们不休息就不能再走了。

（2）(A)further既可表示有形距离的“较远”、“更远”：

A.a. There is a cottage on the further side of the hill.

在小山的那一边有一个茅舍。

b. It turned out a further distance than he had imagined.
