1. disgust可以作名词和动词。
(1)disgust作名词①a strong feeling of dislike and noise or disapproval厌恶,气愤,反感例如:Joan looked at him with disgust.琼厌恶的看着她。Sam threw his books down in disguste and stormed out of the room.萨姆气愤地扔下书,冲出房间。
②a very strong feeling of dislike that almost makes you sick, caused by something unpleasant嫌恶,厌恶,作呕例如:He reached into the bin with a look of disgust on his face.他把手伸进垃圾箱,脸上带着厌恶的表情。Edward tasted the thin, sour wines with disgust.爱德华厌恶的尝着那又淡又酸的酒。
(2)disgust作动词①to make someone feel very annoyed or upset about something that is not acceptable使某人反感、厌恶、气愤例如:Many parents claimed to be disgusted by the amount of violence in the film.许多家长称,他们对电影里大量的暴力内容很反感。It disgusts me that he got away with it.他竟逍遥法外,我为此愤愤不平。
②to be so unpleasant that it makes you feel almost sick使某人感到恶心、作呕例如:The thought of eating insects disgusts me.想想吃昆虫我就恶心。
2. disgusted adj. very annoyed or upset by something that is not acceptable气愤的,厌恶的,反感的例如:Disgusted onlookers claimed the driver was more concerned about his car than about victim.气愤的旁观者说,那名司机更担心的是他的汽车,而不是受害人。Most locals are disgusted by the anti-foreigner violence.大多数当地人对反外国人的暴力行为很反感。
3. disgusting作形容词(1)extremely unpleasant and making you feel sick令人恶心的,使人极其反感的,令人厌恶的例如:Rubbish was piled everywhere—it was disgusting.垃圾堆的到处都是,真恶心。Smoking is a really disgusting habit.吸烟是一种十分令人讨厌的习惯。
(2)shocking and unacceptable令人吃惊的,让人无法接受的例如:Sixty pounds for thirty minutes conservation. I think that's disgusting!咨询30分钟要收费60英镑,我看这也太离谱了!That's a disgusting thing to say.这话说不出口。
4. disgustingly adv.例如:They are disgustingly rich.他们富得惊人。
