有些有关于食物的谚语是很常用到的。《mmmEnglish》的讲师Emma提出一些日常生活中会使用到的“食物”谚语！

1.(to)putallyoureggsinonebasket孤注一掷意思：把所有的钱都放在一个篮子里，也就是我们常说的“孤注一掷”。ex.1Whilemybrothertrainedtobeaprofessionalfootballer,healsostudiedadegreeinengineering.Becausemydadtoldhimnottoputallofhiseggsinonebasket.（我的哥哥训练成为一个职业足球运动员时，同时他还攻读工程学位。因为我爸爸告诉他不要把所有的鸡蛋放在一个篮子里。）

ex.2Myuncleinvestedallofhissavingsintoapanythatwentbankrupt.Idon’tknowwhyheputallofhiseggsinonebasket.（我叔叔把他的所有储蓄都投入了一家破产的公司。我不知道为什么他把所有的鸡蛋放在一个篮子里。）

2.(to)beinapickle/(to)beinabitofpickle意思：此人陷入了困境。ex.1We’reinapickle…We’vejustlockedthekeysinthecar.（我们陷入困境了…我们把钥匙锁在车里。）ex2.Ipromisedtopickupmysisterfromtheairport,butI’mstillatworkandIcan’tleaveyet!I’minabitofapickle,canyouhelp?（我答应从机场接我的姐姐，但我还在工作，还不能离开！你能帮助我吗？）

3.(to)biteoffmorethan(one)canchew意思：不自量力、力不从心。ex1.He’sbeenworkingbacklateeverynightthisweektyingtofinishtheproject.Ithinkhe’sbittenoffmorethanhecanchew.（他这周晚上都在工作，为了完成这个项目。我想他力不从心。）

4.(to)buttersomeoneup意思：巴结某人、谄媚ex1.IknowthatPaulhasasparetickettotheconcert.Perhapsifwebutterhimup,hemightofferittous!（我知道保罗有一张音乐会的票。如果我们巴结他，他也许会提供给我们！）

ex2.He’llhavetobutterhisbossupifhewantstotakeextraleaveatChristmas.（如果他想在圣诞节额外休假，他就必须巴结他的老板。）

5.inthenutshell意思：简而言之、一言以蔽之ex1.Well…It’saplicatedstory,butinanutshell,it’saboutthreeastronautswhodisappearforaboutthirtyyearsbeforereturningtoearthwithnomemoryofanythingthathadhappened!（嗯…这是一个复杂的故事，但简而言之，这是关于三个太空人，消失了大约三十年后，回到地球，却没有任何记忆！）
