Born in Cologne, Germany, Johanna Schorn Kalinsky studied film directing in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the Universidad del Cine (FUC), followed by the Postgraduate Film Programme at the Universidad Torcuato Di Tella. From 2018 to 2021 she taught screenwriting at the Universidad del Cine before returning to Germany. Her first feature HEADLIGHTS (2025) was selected at FIDMarseille.
