懒惰往往喜欢跟人做朋友，和它交上朋友的人往往回遭遇失败和痛苦。

学生交上了它，学业就会荒废；农夫交上了它，稻田就会变成荒地；工人交上了它，就不去工作，从此一家人挨饿。总之和懒惰交上朋友的人，都会有不良的后果。

而和勤劳做朋友的人却不多，为什么呢？因为勤劳要努力，着是大多数人不欢迎的，但和它做朋友，对你有莫大的帮助，不论农夫、学生、工人交上了它，它就会使你得到成功和快乐。

勤劳是先苦后甜，所以懒惰的人不喜欢；懒惰是先甜后苦，多数人总是喜欢。古今中外的伟大人物都是先吃苦而后做了轰轰烈烈的大事。由此可见：勤劳是人生旅途中不可缺少的东西。
