Likeallantelopes,Yingyingisfastandagileandcanswiftlycovergreatstretchesoflandasheracesacrosstheearth.AsymbolofthevastnessofChina'slandscape,theantelopecarriestheblessingofhealth,thestrengthofbodythatcomesfromharmonywithnature.Yingying'sflyingposecapturestheessenceofaspeciesuniquetotheQinghai-TibetPlateau,oneofthefirstanimalsputunderprotectioninChina.TheselectionoftheTibetanAntelopereflectsBeijingcommitmenttoaGreenOlympics.HisheadornamentincorporatesseveraldecorativestylesfromtheQinghai-TibetandSinkiangculturesandtheethnicdesigntraditionsofWesternChina.Strongintrackandfieldevents,Yingyingisaquick-wittedandagileboywhorepresentstheyellowOlympicring.

Everyspringandsummer,thechildrenofBeijinghaveflownbeautifulkitesonthecurrentsofwindthatblowthroughthecapital.Amongthekitedesigns,thegolden-wingedswallowistraditionallyoneofthemostpopular.Nini'sfigureisdrawnfromthisgrandtraditionofflyingdesigns.Hergoldenwingssymbolizetheinfiniteskyandspreadgood-luckasablessingwhereversheflies.SwallowisalsopronouncedyaninChinese,andYanjingiswhatBeijingwascalledasanancientcapitalcity.AmongFuwa,Niniisasinnocentandjoyfulasaswallow.SheisstrongingymnasticsandrepresentsthegreenOlympicring.
