奶奶说在她小时候家里很穷，总是吃不饱，每天要去山上挖野菜，回家用水煮熟当饭吃，有时候误吃了有毒的野菜，就会浑身肿涨、胃也会疼，但因为家里没有钱找大夫，也只好忍着，不知道有多少孩子因为这失去了生命。奶奶说她是因为命大才活了下来。她六、七岁的时候，也没有吃过一个鸡蛋。十一岁才上学，因为家里有许多弟弟妹妹，还不时的要“旷课”哄他们。根本没有过生日这一说，即使父母给子女过，也不过是给几个甜枣吃，家境好的给煮上一个鸡蛋，连一个糖块也没有，更别说蛋糕了。
