台湾学者作家刘庸在一篇《忍着不死》的文章中讲了三个母亲的故事，将对母爱的综琮推向了极侄。

　　之一，讲在亚美尼亚大地震中，一对被埋在瓦砾中长达八天的母女奇迹般获救。人们感到惊奇的是，在阴冷，无水和没有食物的八天中，只有三岁的幼女是怎样活下来的？原来是她的母亲咬破手指，让孩子吸食自己的鲜血得以不死。

　　之三，是讲越南战争中一群平民在枪林弹雨中狂奔逃命。一粒子弹射中了一位年轻的母亲，她没有象其它人一样扑到而死，而是慢慢蹲下去结束了生命。拍下这组镜头的美国记者流着眼泪对刘墉说：她是怕压着抱着的孩子，才忍着不死，蹲了下去。。。。。

　　瓦砾中的母亲忍着不死，用自己的鲜血延长着三岁幼女的生命；燃烧着的岩浆下的母亲忍着不死，以血肉之躯护卫着怀中的幼子；还有那位不肯扑到而死的年轻母亲。
