Traveling,inmyopinion,doesmoregoodthanharm.Mostimpotant,itbroadenourmind.wecangetintouchwithothercivilizations,cultures,customseconomicmethodsandideas.

Throughthistory,mosttravelwasundertakenbecauseofnecessity--notforpleasure.Peopletraveledtosatisfybasicneedsforsurvival.Theysearchedforfoodandshelterorfledfromenemies.Manypeopletraveledinsearchofabetterlife.Perhapstheyweresearchingforgold,silver,andothertreasuresthatwouldmakethemrich.Thisisnottosaythatnooneevertraveledjustforthefunofit.Inancienttimes,forexample,wealthyromansmadeexcursionstoGreecetotakepartintheOlympicGames,theatricalproductions,andfestivals.Ofcourse,somepeopleweremotivatedtraveljustoutofcuriosity.Theywantedtofindoutwhatlaybeyondthehorizonoraroundthebandintheroad.Alsotravelforthepurposeofconductingtrade--inotherwords,businesstravel--hasbeengoingonforcenturies.TraderscouldnotonlymakemoneybutalsolearntospeakeseverallanguagesandbeintroducedtoChina'sculture.

So,travelingisamatterbothexcitingandabundant.Itdobrodenourmind,anddrawnewideastousguidedbyothers.
