Inthefirstinstance,advertisingisthesalesgimmicktoOligopolies.Insuchsortofmarket,firmscompletewitheachothertogainthemarketshares.However,theywillbereluctanttoincreaseorlowertheirpricebecausetheinformationisinterdependentandconsumershavegottonesofothersubstitutes.Therefore,theonlywaytopromotetheirsaleswillbethroughadvertising.Someconsumers,ontheotherhands,dofindsuchinformationusefulwhilechoosingwhattobuy.Thereisacommonsenseinit:hardlycouldaninefficientandstagnantfirminvestagreatdealofmoneyoninvestment.Inadditiontothat,bigfirmsareabletolaythecornerstonetoprovidegoodsandserviceswithbetterquality,whichmightbenefittheconsumers.
Nevertheless,somearguethatpeoplewillbeeasilyswayedbyadvertisementfeaturingwithbeautifulmoviestarsandmakeirrationaldecisionsorevenbuygoodsonimpulseespeciallywhentalkingaboutyoungsterswithlessconsciousnessandexperience.Thisisstillaratherminorproblem.Wecantacklethisbytakingsomemeasurements.Forexample,toeducateyoungpeoplenotbuyinggoodstheydon’tneedandmaybesetaregulationofagelimitsonpurchasingcertaingoodslikecosmeticsandhigh-techproducts.
Toconclude,advertisementsinmyopinionwillhardlyinfluencepeople’spurchasingpatterns.Instead,somewell-madeadvertisementscanapproveheaestheticalcapabilityoftheviewers.Althoughyoungstersareworriedinthisadvertisingexplosioncentury,educationandrecognitioncanpreventthemfrombeingconedtoagreatextent.
