Noiseisamongthemostpervasivepollutantstoday.Noisefromroadtraffic,jetplanes,jetskis,garbagetrucks,constructionequipment,manufacturingprocesses,lawnmowers,leafblowers,andboomboxes,tonameafew,areamongtheaudiblelitterthatareroutinelybroadcastintotheair.
Noisenegativelyaffectshumanhealthandwell-being.Problemsrelatedtonoiseincludehearingloss,stress,highbloodpressure,sleeploss,distractionandlostproductivity,andageneralreductioninthequalityoflifeandopportunitiesfortranquillity.
Weexperiencenoiseinanumberofways.Onsomeoccasions,wecanbeboththecauseandthevictimofnoise,suchaswhenweareoperatingnoisyappliancesorequipment.Therearealsoinstanceswhenweexperiencenoisegeneratedbyothersjustaspeopleexperiencesecond-handsmoke.Whileinbothinstances,noisesareequallydamaging,second-handnoiseismoretroublingbecauseithasnegativeimpactsonusbutisputintotheenvironmentbyothers,withoutourconsent.
