那是一个夏天的长得不能再长的下午，在印第安那州的一个湖边。我起先是不经意地坐着看书，忽然发现湖边有几棵树正飘散入湖水里。我当时没有十分注意，只当是偶然风起所带来的。

我至今仍然在沉思之际想起那一片柔媚的湖水，不知湖畔那群种子中有哪一颗成了小树，至少，我知道有一颗已经成长。那颗种子曾遇见了一片土地，在一个过客的心之峡谷里，蔚然成阴，教会她怎样敬畏生命。
