故事中简爱以双倍报酬解雇了贵妃和司机，体现了她重回罗切斯特先生身边的决心。她不知道罗切斯特先生是否真的在那里，但她还是在暮色中摸索着来到了那座荒凉的屋子。

她是那么的想念他。她只希望罗切斯特先生让她和他住在一起，即使她发现罗切斯特先生又瞎又残。
