Whyshouldpeoplecare?Becauseweneedanimals,andbecauseoncetheyaregone,therewillneverbeanymore.Animalsaremorethanjustbeautifulorinteresting.Theyaremorethanjustasourceoffood.Everyanimalhasitsplaceinthebalanceofnature.Destroyingonekindofanimalcancreatemanyproblems.Forexample,whenfarmerskilledlargenumbersofhawks,thefarmers'storesofcornandgrainweredestroyedbyratsandmice.Why?Becausehawkseatratsandmice,withnohawkstokeepdowntheirnumbers,theratsandmicemultipliedquickly.

Luckily,somepeopleareworkingtohelpsavetheanimals.Somegroupsraisemoneytoletpeopleknowabouttheproblem.Andtheytrytogetthegovernmentstopasslawsprotectinganimalsindanger.Quiteafewcountrieshavepassedlaws.Theselawsforbidthekillingofanyanimalorplantonthedangerlist.Slowly,thenumberofsomeanimalsindangerisgrowing.
