斜阳岛位于涠洲岛东南海面9海里处，与涠洲岛素有大、小蓬莱之美誉，面积1.89平方公里，是广西纬度最低的地方。从涠洲岛可看到太阳斜照岛的全景，又因该岛横亘干涠洲岛东南面，南面为阳，故称斜阳岛。也有说法是斜阳岛之名来自于斜阳岛夕阳挂岛之美而得名。斜阳岛状似一朵盛开的莲花，中部凹陷，四周凸出。沿岸陵岩壁立下临深渊，怪石嶙峋、飞鲨怪鱼、贝类珊瑚清晰可见。岛上冬暖夏凉，野花繁多，森林原始，山径迷离，海蚀、海积、溶岩及悬崖景观奇特。
