为什么北极不能住人呢英语
Why Can't People Live in the Arctic?
The Arctic is a harsh and unforgiving environment that poses several challenges for human habitation. Firstly, the extreme cold temperatures can plummet to -60 degrees Celsius (-76 degrees Fahrenheit), making it nearly impossible for humans to survive without proper insulation and heating. Secondly, the region experiences prolonged periods of darkness during the winter, known as polar night, which can lead to mental health issues such as seasonal affective disorder (SAD).
Additionally, the lack of sunlight for extended periods can disrupt the body's natural circadian rhythms, affecting sleep and overall well-being. The soil is also frozen, or permafrost, which makes building stable structures difficult. This frozen ground can lead to the collapse of buildings and infrastructure.
Lastly, the harsh weather conditions, including strong winds and heavy snowfall, can make travel and transportation nearly impossible. These factors combined make the Arctic an inhospitable place for permanent human residence.
