The Dragon Boat Festival, also known as Duanwu Festival, is a traditional Chinese holiday that falls on the fifth day of the fifth lunar month. This year, it is celebrated on June 12. The festival commemorates the patriotic poet Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the Miluo River in the 5th century BC to protest corruption in the government. To honor him, people eat zongzi, sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo leaves, and hold dragon boat races. The dragon boat races, which are a major event, are believed to drive away evil spirits and fish from the river. During the festival, it's also customary to wear incense Sachets and drink realgar wine to ward off diseases. The Dragon Boat Festival is not only a time for family gatherings and festive activities but also a reminder of the rich cultural heritage of China.
