英语发展的三个阶段英文
The development of English can be divided into three main stages. The first stage is Old English, which dates back to the 5th to 11th centuries. This period was influenced by the Germanic languages spoken by the Anglo-Saxons who migrated to Britain. Old English is characterized by its complex grammar and the use of runes, an early form of writing.
The second stage is Middle English, spanning from the 12th to the 15th centuries. This era saw the Norman Conquest of England, which introduced French vocabulary into English. Middle English also witnessed the Great Vowel Shift, a significant change in vowel pronunciation that reshaped the language.
The third and final stage is Modern English, which began around the 16th century and continues to the present day. This period is marked by the expansion of the British Empire and the subsequent influence of other languages, particularly through colonization and globalization. Modern English has evolved to become a global lingua franca, with its vocabulary, grammar, and pronunciation influenced by various cultural and linguistic interactions.
