The Qingming Festival, also known as Tomb-Sweeping Day, is a traditional Chinese holiday that falls on April 4 or 5 each year. One of the most famous is about Jie Zitui, a loyal and virtuous scholar who sacrificed his life for his king. Another legend tells of a young girl named Qu Yuan, who drowned himself in the river due to political injustice. The people of the state of Chu threw rice into the river to prevent fish from eating his body. These stories reflect the importance of filial piety and loyalty in Chinese culture. Today, the Qingming Festival is celebrated by visiting graves, offering food and paper offerings, and burning incense. It is also a time for families to gather and pay their respects to their ancestors.
