Notallofthepeopletheuniversityhiredwouldalreadybemembersofthecommunity,sothatwouldmeanalotofnewpeoplecomingtotown.Ofcourse,alotofstudentswouldcometoo.Twoadvantagesofnewpeopleintownwouldbemoretaxpayersandamorediversepopulation.Withmorepeoplepayingtaxes,therewouldbemoremoneyforschools,librariesandothercommunityneeds.Withamorediversepopulation,therewouldbenewstores,newrestaurants【toservedifferenttastes】andnewculturalinfluences.

Ofcourse,therewouldalsobedisadvantages.Morepeoplelivinginthecommunitycouldmeanmorehousesbeingbuilt.Therewouldbemoretrafficonthestreets,withthecombinationofnewresidentsandstudentswhobringtheircars.Plus,morepeoplewouldmeanmorepublicserviceswouldbeneeded.Theseservicescouldincludeeverythingfromtrashcollectiontomoreschoolstoholdallthechildrenofthenewresidents.Newservicesmightmeanlocaltaxeswouldhavetogoup,eventhoughtherewouldbemoretaxpayers.

Anotherdisadvantageisthatthepersonalityofourcommunitywouldchange.Itwouldgofrombeingaplacewhereeverybodyknowseverybodyelsetoaplacewherealotofpeoplearestrangers.Itwouldbecomeaplacewithalotofshort-termresidents,liketheuniversitystudents,whomightnotcareasmuchaboutthetown.

Communitiesalwayschangeovertime,though,andoverallIliketheatmosphereofacollegetown.Anewuniversitywouldbringalotofchallenges,butIthinkitwouldbeworthit.
